Time distortion:

I was on the phone last night talking about the normal things from back home. Who is stirring up trouble, the weather, sports etc... The comment was made that next Thursday would be Thanksgiving. I was taken aback. Here it is less than a week away from a major American holiday and it had completely snuck up on me. We have a couple of civilian contractors working in our shop and they said Wal-Mart was already putting up Christmas decorations! This shocked me. Christmas is not even a thought on my mind. It's not that I don't care about these things, its just we are not inundated with the commercialism of American culture out here so the holidays sneak up on us. Actually, we still have a Halloween decoration up in one of our vans, a little witch on a broomstick that someone had sent over here from their family. I think it will be here for Valentines Day; perhaps we'll leave it up for the next guys!

Happy Thanksgiving, Will! Let us know what the Marines Thanksgiving dinner is. I believe you that time moves strangely in Iraq. Every day you work so long and hard, and without weekends one day just blends into the next one. Do you have a calendar to keep an eye on the date? Or do you even want one? In my count you are over 1/3 done with your Iraq time, so I hope the Marines keep their promise for the length of your stay there. In my opinion they really ought to let you leave early due to the number of hours you work per week! Anyway, we're thankful that you are doing well. Heard you beat everyone at the trivia contest--no big shock there! Heard you folks feasted on our homemade caramel corn during the trivia game. : ) Glad there was time for fun! We'll be thinking of you on Thanksgiving and wishing you were with us. Take care of yourself---

I suppose I can come up with some things I'm thankful for.

I'm thankful that this deployment has begun and we are done with the preparations before the ticker began.

I'm thankful that so far it hasn't been as bad as I expected it would be.

I'm thankful I able to be an all-star at work, with much more time on my hands.

I'm thankful that running is no longer something I hate, but now moved towards generally dislike! :)

I'm thankful you are out there with your buddies, and some pretty good guys.
